The racial makeup of the area was 62.24% White, 16.90% African American, 0.36% Native American, 11.87% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 4.54% from other races, and 4.02% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.72% of the population. There were 14,142 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.5% were married couples living together, 12.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.21.

Wheaton Maryland - Population: 57,694

Wheaton is an unincorporated but urbanized area in Montgomery County, Maryland, USA, north of Washington, D.C., northwest of Silver Spring. Wheaton takes its name from Frank Wheaton, a major-general in the Union Army during the Civil War. As an unincorporated area, Wheaton's boundaries are not officially defined. The United States Census Bureau has not chosen to make Wheaton itself into a Census-Designated Place, but instead combines it with Glenmont into a single Wheaton-Glenmont CDP, centered at 39°3'N 77°3'W, whose 2000 census population was 57,694. According to Rand McNally, the Greater Wheaton area (which extends beyond Wheaton-Glenmont CDP) had an estimated population of 134,800 in 2005. The United States Geological Survey, however, does consider Wheaton as a place whose center is at latitude 39°2'23?N, 77°3'20?W.

Germantown Maryland - Population: 55,419

In the 1830s and 1840s, a large number of German business owners, some of whom were immigrants from Germany and others relocating from Pennsylvania, settled where the roads, now known as Liberty Mill and Clopper, intersect. While most of the local landowners and farmers were English, travelers remembering the accents of the shop-owners called the area Germantown, and the name stuck. Germantown has experienced great growth during the past few years and an urbanized towncenter has been built. This place has been designated a Census-Designated Place by the United States Census Bureau and it is the only Germantown, Maryland recognized by the United States Postal Service, although there are three others (one each) in the counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore, and Worcester. It has the assigned ZIP Codes of 20874 and 20876 for delivery and 20875 for post office boxes only.

Gaithersburg is a city in Montgomery County, Maryland. As of 2004, the city had an estimated total population of 58,091 [1], making it the second largest in the state. This city is located at 39°8' North, 77°13' West, to the northwest of Rockville, the county seat of Montgomery County. Gaithersburg was incorporated in 1878. Aspen Hill Maryland - Population: 50,228

Aspen Hill is a census-designated place and an unincorporated area in Montgomery County, Maryland. It got its name from aspen trees that once were found near the first post office in the area. The post office was located in a general store on what was then known as the Washington-Brookeville Pike (now the intersection of Connecticut and Georgia Avenues) and opened around 1864. As an unincorporated area, Aspen Hill's boundaries are not officially defined. The United States Postal Service does not even use the name Aspen Hill (except as a station name in the Silver Spring Post Office), preferring to divide it between Rockville and Silver Spring. The United States Census Bureau, however, defines Aspen Hill as a Census-Designated Place located at 39°6' North, 77°5' West. The United States Geological Survey definition of Aspen Hill is centered at 39°4'46?N, 77°4'24?W, somewhat different from the Census Bureau's definition.

Rockville Maryland - Population: 47,388

Situated in the Piedmont region and crossed by three creeks (Rock Creek, Cabin John Creek, and Watts Branch), Rockville provided an excellent refuge for semi-nomadic Native Americans as early as 8000 BC. By the first millennium BC, a few of these groups had settled down into year-round agricultural communities that exploited the native flora, including sunflowers and marsh elder. By 1200 AD, these early groups (dubbed Montgomery Indians by later archaeologists) were increasingly drawn into conflict with the Senecas and Susquehannocks who had migrated south from Pennsylvania and New York. Within the present-day boundaries of the city, six prehistoric sites have been uncovered and documented, and borne artifacts several thousand years old. By the year 1700, under pressure from European colonists, the majority of these original inhabitants had been driven away.

Potomac Maryland - Population: 44,822

In 1716, the Canaze Indian nation built a trail called the Tehogee Indian Trail which is still the route of River Road today. Several years later, the first farmers arrived. In 1829, the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal was completed in an area that had become known as Offutts Crossroads. The cornerstone was laid there and the name was changed to Potomac, in honor of the river that passes by the town. Potomac is often cited as the inspiration for the television show Beverly Hills 90210, a show created by Darren Star, a graduate of Potomac's Winston Churchill High School.

Olney Maryland - Population: 31,438

Originally known as Mechanicsville, the village which became Olney was established in 1800. The area was mostly farmland, but it soon began attracting artisans. Early residents Sarah Brooke and Dr. Charles Farquhar were devotees of the English poet William Cowper, and named their home after the poet's hometown. The area was in turn named for their home, which still stands and is known as the Olney House. The Brooke family held the largest tracts of land in Olney, whose central village was at the intersection of the Rockville to Baltimore road, and the one which connected Washington with Westminster, Maryland to the north. The Quaker community in Sandy Spring thrived just to Olney's east. St. John's Episcopal Church was established in 1842 and survives to this day. After the siege of Washington by the British in 1814 during the War of 1812, President Madison and his family passed through Olney en route to taking refuge in the neighboring town of Brookeville.

Damascus Maryland - Population: 11,430

Damascus is located at the intersection of two major roads in upper Montgomery County, the Old Quaker Road (currently Rt. 27) and the Damascus-Laytonsville Road (currently Rt. 108). James Madison, the fourth U.S. President, appointed Edward Hughes postmaster of Damascus. Hughes laid out and planned the town. Hughes received permission from Congress for a postal route through town. Hughes called his town "The Pleasant Plains of Damascus" after Damascus, Syria (a biblical reference). A newspaper in Frederick, Maryland, wrote of Hughes's growing town: "There is at this place an extensive opening for mechanics of all the different kinds, and it bids fair to improve very fast; ... There is at present two blacksmith shops, a saddler's shop and a store in the place -- a tailor, a wheel wright, and a shoemaker are much wanted, and would meet with great encouragement." This was the Damascus of 1816. The new township drew settlers from Anne Arundel as well as from Montgomery County.
