Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.40% of the population. There were 8,299 households out of which 43.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were married couples living together, 19.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.0% were non-families. 19.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.81 and the average family size was 3.21.

Bowie Maryland - Population: 50,269

The town of Bowie owes its existence to the railway. In 1853, Col. William D. Bowie succeeded in obtaining a charter from the Maryland legislature to construct a rail line into Southern Maryland. In 1869 the Baltimore & Potomac Railroad Company began the construction of a railroad from Baltimore to Southern Maryland. By 1872, it was completed together with a spur to Washington DC. The remainder of the railroad through Southern Maryland and Pope's Creek was completed in 1873. Earlier, the area was dotted with small farms and large tobacco plantations in an economy based on agriculture and slavery. However, in 1870 Ben Plumb, a land speculator and developer, sold building lots around the railroad junction and named the settlement "Huntington City." This has been declared as the founding of Huntington City in 1870.

Perry Hall Maryland - Population: 28,705

In 1774, wealthy planter Harry Dorsey Gough (see Gough-Calthorpe family) purchased an 1,000 acre (4 km²) estate called "the Adventure" north of present-day Belair Road. Gough renamed the estate "Perry Hall," after his family's home in Perry Barr, Birmingham, England, and completed construction of the Perry Hall Mansion, which still stands in the northern part of the community. Harry Dorsey Gough, then, could be thought of as the founder of Perry Hall. The Gough family dominated the life of the community until after the Civil War. The Gough plantation was among the largest in Baltimore County, and Harry Dorsey Gough was an early leader in the Maryland General Assembly, as well as a founder of the Methodist Church. It was at Perry Hall Mansion that plans for the American Methodist Episcopal Church were developed by Gough, his Birmingham neighbour Francis Asbury, and other religious leaders.

Ashton Maryland - Population: 3,437

Ashton is a community in Montgomery County, Maryland. The commercial center of Ashton lies at the junction of Route 108 (Ashton Road) and New Hampshire Avenue. The United States Census Bureau combines Ashton with the nearby community of Sandy Spring to form the Census-Designated Place of Ashton-Sandy Spring, and all census data are tabulated for this combined entity. A new village shopping center is planned to begin construction in 2006 or 2007 at the corner of Route 108 and New Hampshire Avenue, where the current Sandy Spring Bank offices are located, consisting of about a 7 to 10 acre plot. It would possibly be anchored with a grocery store, as yet undetermined. Opinions vary on the effects of the plan on Ashton. The developer's plan is available online, as is an opposition site.

Sandy Spring Maryland - Population: 3,437

Sandy Spring, Maryland is an unincorporated community in Montgomery County, Maryland. The community was founded by Quakers who arrived in the early 1700s searching for land where they could grow tobacco and corn. They built their meeting house in 1817 near a fresh-water spring which gave its name to the community. A Quaker school, Sandy Spring Friends School, is still located in the area.
