About Annapolis Maryland

Annapolis is the capital of Maryland, which is a state of the United States of America, and the county seat of Anne Arundel County. It is a city with a population of 36,217 according to the 2004 census. The city is a part of the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area, It is situated on the Severn River about 2 miles from its entrance into Chesapeake Bay, 26 miles south of Baltimore and about the same distance east of Washington D.C. It is also home to the United States Naval Academy and St. John's College. A settlement named Providence was founded on the north shore of the Severn River in 1649 by Puritan exiles from Virginia, led by William Stone. The settlers moved to a better-protected harbor on the south shore and the town bore in succession the names of Town at Proctor's, Town at the Severn, Anne Arundel's Towne after the wife of Lord Baltimore who died soon afterwards.The city became very wealthy through the slave-trade.

There were 9,945 housing units at an average density of 297.7/km² (770.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 92.45% White, 3.29% African American, 0.18% Native American, 2.77% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.32% from other races, and 0.94% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.19% of the population. There were 9,731 households out of which 40.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.7% were married couples living together, 6.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.7% were non-families. 13.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. Arnold Maryland - Population: 23,422

The early settlement of Arnold, an area between the Magothy and Severn Rivers, began with the farm of John Arnold. Arnold, a veteran of the War of 1812, acquired 300 acres on the north side of the Severn River. Anne Arundel Community College is located in Arnold along College Parkway, and is annually rated one of the top community colleges in the nation. The Bay Hills Golf Course is in Arnold. Arnold contains many scenic riversides with cliffs and beaches, providing plenty of places for leisure and sight seeing. There are 12 marinas in Arnold. Sandy Point State Park is approximately two or three miles east of Arnold proper and includes a beach on the Chesapeake Bay in proximity to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Marshes and creeks can also be found in the park and are home to wildlife found throughout the Chesapeake Bay, including blue crabs, herons, terrapins, rockfish, eagles, and so on.

Crofton Maryland - Population: 20,091

Crofton is a census-designated place and planned community in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. Established in 1964, Crofton recently held its 40th birthday celebration. Community life frequently revolves around Crofton Parkway, actually a scenic loop 3.5 miles long, tangentially touching the larger "triangle" made up of three nearby roads, which encloses the original Crofton community. Crofton Parkway is the scene of yearly parades, two of its three elementary schools, the Town Hall, Village Green, community events, Crofton Country Club, and walkers, joggers and bikers around the loop. The Crofton area now extends North from the triangle, including Crofton Park and the Village at Waugh Chapel, a large outdoor shopping mall. Crofton also has a community pool, the Crofton Swim and Tennis Club [CSTC] but is restricted to those inhabitants of the triangle.

Cape Saint Claire Maryland - Population: 8,022

Cape St. Claire is an unincorporated community as well as a census-designated place in Anne Arundel County, Maryland 7 miles east of Annapolis, Maryland. While the community of Cape St. Claire lies entirely within the CDP and accounts for approximately 80% of the homes and residents, the CDP also includes the smaller communities of Atlantis, Whispering Woods, Green Holly, and St. Claire Court. The population was 8,022 at the 2000 census. Contained within Cape St. Claire are three marinas, multiple parks and beaches, a shopping center, Broadneck High School and Cape St. Claire Elementary School. Fire protection is provided by the Cape St. Claire Volunteer Fire Company. Kent Island Maryland - Population: 0

Kent Island is the largest island in the Chesapeake Bay, and a historic place in Maryland. To the east, a narrow channel known as the Kent Narrows barely separates the island from the Delmarva Peninsula, and on the other side, the island is separated from Sandy Point, an area near Annapolis, by roughly four miles (6.4 km) of water. At only four miles wide, the main waterway of the bay is at its narrowest at this point and is spanned here by the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. The Chester River runs to the north of the island and empties into the Chesapeake Bay at Kent Island's Love Point. To the south of the island lies Eastern Bay. The United States Census Bureau reports that the island has 31.62 sq mi (81.92 km²) of land area. Kent Island is part of Queen Anne's County, Maryland and Maryland's Eastern Shore region.
